A picture speaks a thousand words, and only a few
photographers can capture that in essence which speaks a whole story. Michael Kossar such a photographer.
Michael Kossar was born in West Berlin in 1970 and grew up in Montreal, Canada. He
first claimed acclaim for his picture in 1995 when he accompanied Haitian and
Cuban refugees and asylum seekers on handmade wooden boat trying to sail to
America. The boat named ‘God’s believer’ sank in the Caribbean, off- the coast
of Miami, Florida. He perfectly captured the struggle of those asylum seekers
ad brought forward their plight to the world. This will mark the beginning of a
emotionally charged style which has come to symbolize his work. Michael is also the author of two non-fiction
monographs published in 2002. His work ‘Nameless’ published I 2006 by RM was
named the best photography book of 2007-2007 at the Düsseldorf Photo Book
festival in Germany. He presently lives in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
